Email structure and an offer instead of a product

Cold Email 12 min
Business problem

Most cold emails sell features: 'our CRM has automation, integrations and reports'. The reader thinks 'so what?'. The second mistake: the email is about you (we, our company, our 10 years of experience) instead of the customer. The third: no single CTA — 'reach out if anything comes up' = no action.

Proven method

The effective cold email structure:

  1. SUBJECT (3-7 words, specific, no clickbait),
  2. PREVIEW (the first line in Gmail — should pull, not repeat the subject),
  3. OPENER (L3-L5 personalization — a research fact showing you understand),
  4. CONTEXT (1 sentence: why you're writing — a trigger),
  5. PROBLEM (the consequence: what it costs the customer),
  6. VALUE (the outcome: what they can gain — specific, with a number),
  7. CTA (ONE easy question: 'Do you have 10 minutes this week?' or 'Want me to send 3 examples?'). The offer rule: YOU SELL AN OUTCOME, NOT A PRODUCT — 'from 2 meetings to 8 a month' instead of 'our tool'. Length: 50-100 words (a cold email isn't an essay). AI: generates 5 opener variants, copy, subjects — you pick and fine-tune with your voice.
Market example

A weak email: 'Hello, I'm writing from company X, we offer a CRM for companies, automation, integrations, reports. Reach out if you want more information. Best regards'. A good email: 'Hi [Name], I saw you're hiring 3 salespeople and opened a branch in Gdansk [trigger]. Usually at that point leads start getting lost between the phone and a spreadsheet [problem]. I help performance agencies cut that leak — clients regain ~15% of leads that used to slip away after 6 weeks [outcome]. Do you have 10 minutes next week to check whether this is a problem for you too? [CTA]'. Length: 78 words.

Ready-to-use prompt
You are a cold email copywriter.

Context: I sell [PRODUCT]. The outcome I deliver: [OUTCOME — e.g. +15% leads, 8 meetings/month]. The customer problem: [PAIN]. Trigger (a fact about the company): [TRIGGER FROM RESEARCH].

Task: Write a cold email by the structure:
1. Subject (3-7 words, specific)
2. Preview (first line, pulls)
3. Opener (L3-L5 personalization — a research fact)
4. Context + problem (what it costs)
5. Value (the outcome, specific, preferably a number)
6. CTA (one easy question)
Length: max 100 words. Write 3 variants (different subjects and CTAs). Label which element is which (so I can see the structure).

Format: 3 variants with the structure.

Variations & alternative scenarios

Services version: the outcome in meetings/leads/clients.

Product version: the outcome in time/savings/efficiency.

Practical exercise

Write your offer in 1 sentence (an outcome, not a product): 'I help [SEGMENT] [OUTCOME]'. Write 1 cold email by the structure to a fictional lead (use a real trigger from research). Check the length (<100 words).
